After the US produced a report on International Religious Freedom in which it predicted that attacks on minorities in India will continue until 2021, India accused the US of engaging in ‘vote bank politics in international affairs.’ “We have taken note of the publishing of the United States State Department’s 2021 Report on International Religious Freedom, as well as ill-informed remarks by senior US officials.” It is regrettable that vote bank politics is used in international relations. “We would encourage that judgements based on motivated inputs and prejudiced perspectives be avoided,” said Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry.
Bagchi went on to say that India promotes religious freedom and human rights since it is a “naturally heterogeneous culture.”
“In our interactions with the United States, we have consistently raised areas of concern there, such as racially and ethnically motivated assaults, hate crimes, and gun violence,” he continued.”Throughout the year, there were attacks on members of religious minority communities, including deaths, assaults, and intimidation.” “These included acts of ‘cow vigilantism’ against non-Hindus based on claims of cow slaughter or beef trading,” according to the report’s India section. The article also cited RSS chairman Mohan Bhagwat’s claim that Hindus and Muslims in India share the same DNA and should not be separated based on religion.
