BJD Calls For 6-Hour Shutdown In Bhubaneswar On Tuesday To Protest Bharatpur Brutality

On September 24, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced a six-hour closure of Bhubaneswar in protest of the state’s worsening law and order situation after an army soldier and his fiancée were attacked at the Bharatpur police station. There will be a bandh in the capital city and its surroundings. At a news briefing, BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said that the six-hour bandh will start at six in the morning.

Strongly condemning the Bharatpur police brutality incident, the regional party has requested the public to extend support to the bandh. The incident involved the misbehaviour to an army officer and his friend by police at Bharatpur police station. Various organizations have expressed outrage over the matter. Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. Women wing of the BJD has submitted a memorandum to the President, highlighting the State’s deteriorating law and order.

According to BJD, the BJP is commemorating the 100-day milestone while attempting to put an end to the event that happened at the Bharatpur police station late on September 15. The son of the governor viciously attacked a state officer during a 100-day journey. The BJD stated that the Bharatpur tragedy happened after 100 days.
