BMC Blames Lack Of Coordination For City Water Logging

The city’s waterlogging has been blamed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to a deficiency in cooperation amongst several departments. Speaking about the waterlogging that occurred in a number of important locations in Bhubaneswar after the initial downpour on Wednesday, BMC Mayor Sulachana Das stated today that different departments are in charge of drainage. To fix the drainage problems, different departments must not coordinate with one another. Das noted that the solution to the water logging issues is a compressive plan.

The primary Gangua nullha, to which all drains and sub-drains are linked, must be cleared. Only 32 kilometers of drainage fall within the BMC’s jurisdiction. However, the remaining portions of a few drainages are not part of the city. In addition, the non-BMC civic entities ought to take aggressive measures to unclog the capital city’s clogged drains. She also said that the Daya West canal needed to be cleaned and cleared of trash.

The seamless flow of surplus rainfall requires concerted effort and organization, she said. She stated that culverts and dumping sites are currently required in eleven locations throughout the city. There are up to 12 recognized critical locations that become flooded during a rainstorm. According to her, the municipal organization is acting to remove unauthorized encroachment and obstructions in drainage.

Waterlogging was reported in a number of low-lying regions of the city on Wednesday, including the NH 16 route that went through the Capital city. The local government was criticized by the inhabitants for their lack of readiness, which led to the flooding.
