British Man Observes Karwa Chauth Fast for His Indian Wife, Internet Calls It ‘Truly Heartwarming’

A British content creator, Nick Booker, has captured hearts across social media after sharing a heartfelt video of himself observing a Karwa Chauth fast for his Indian wife. Known for his engaging content on Indian history and culture, Booker documented his journey across two cities in an Instagram video titled “My Desperate Karwa Chauth Search for the Moon.”

The video begins with Booker revealing that he started fasting at 5 a.m. in Mumbai’s Soho House, Juhu Beach, before catching a flight to Delhi, where he lives with his wife and daughter. “I’ve been fasting since 5 a.m. this morning when I was in Mumbai, and now I’ve reached Delhi, which is of course where I live with my wife and daughter,” he shared.

Determined to spot the moon, Booker climbed to the rooftop of Delhi’s Lodhi Hotel—one of the tallest accessible buildings nearby—saying, “It was the best place to try and see the Moon quickly.”

He also took a moment to explain the cultural significance of Karwa Chauth, noting that it falls on the fourth night of the Krishna Paksha—the waning phase of the moon in the month of Kartik. “That means we’ve got nine nights before Deepavali—the night of Amavasya—when we bring the light, lighting diyas and welcoming Goddess Lakshmi into our homes,” he added.

The video concludes with a touching scene of Booker breaking his fast alongside his wife, sipping water and extending warm wishes: “Wishing all of those who kept this fast—I hope you’ve broken it well. Happy Karwa Chauth and Shubh Deepavali.”

Booker’s gesture has won widespread admiration online, with many calling his devotion and respect for Indian traditions “truly heartwarming.”
