FEATURE: In a state known for its rich culture and natural beauty, the rise of a new generation of entrepreneurs is quietly reshaping Odisha’s economic narrative. One such name is Mr. Jyotirmaya Das — the founder and CEO of Otech Soft Solutions — whose journey from a small town in Jagatsinghpur to leading a fast-growing tech firm in Bhubaneswar illustrates what consistent vision and grounded leadership can achieve.
Jyotirmaya’s early years were rooted in Jagatsinghpur, where he completed his schooling before moving to Bhubaneswar to pursue engineering at Nalanda Institute of Technology. Like many of his peers, he began his career in Pune, joining a media startup during his final year. The early exposure helped him understand the intricacies of digital platforms and client management — lessons he carried forward through stints at Accenture and other firms before eventually returning to Odisha with a bigger dream in mind.

In 2018, he decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge. Along with a few trusted friends, he founded Otech Soft Solutions in early 2019. Operating initially out of a modest office in Bhubaneswar’s DLF Cybercity, the company started with just seven employees and focused on core digital services — including email marketing, mobile outreach, website development, and graphic design.
Like any young company, the journey was not without turbulence. The cyclone of 2020 disrupted operations severely, forcing the team to temporarily shift out of Bhubaneswar to recover lost ground. But their determination held firm, and soon after returning, they picked up momentum once again. Slowly and steadily, Otech began to expand its offerings, attract more clients — particularly from the U.S. — and build a reputation for reliability and creative digital solutions.
Fast forward to today, Otech Soft Solutions employs over 70 professionals across two offices in Bhubaneswar, with a growing presence in the U.S. market. With revenues crossing $2–3 million annually, the company now works across a wider portfolio — from cloud services and branding support to AI-enabled marketing tools and digital transformation for clients overseas.
One of the standout achievements in recent years was securing a strategic partnership with Salesforce India. While initial negotiations were hesitant due to the firm’s size, Mr. Jyotirmaya Das’s persistence over nearly a year paid off, resulting in a three-year collaboration agreement — a milestone that validated the firm’s capabilities on a national level.
Beyond business growth, he is also committed to creating a people-centric work culture. “We’ve ensured our office has no high-pressure environment,” he says. Many of his earliest employees still remain with the company — a rare feat in today’s high-churn tech world. The company also actively hires fresh graduates from local engineering colleges like GITA, REC, and GEC, offering them in-house training to bridge skill gaps and prepare them for client-facing roles.
Looking ahead, his goals are ambitious but measured. He aims to expand to 300 employees in the next two years and reach a revenue milestone of $10 million. Parallelly, he is working on a cricket-focused mobile app for school-level and rural players in Odisha, aimed at digitally recording scores and stats — a personal passion project that also aligns with community development.
Reflecting on the broader IT landscape in Odisha, Mr. Das believes there is immense potential — but it remains under-leveraged. “Odisha has talent, but we need more companies to create a competitive environment. Many young professionals feel stuck because there are limited options and slower growth curves compared to metros,” he notes.
His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is refreshingly practical: “Don’t fall in love with your product too early. Understand the market first — the product should be a response, not a gamble.” He also stresses the need to diversify clients, especially in service-based industries where dependence on a single client can become a vulnerability.
Mr. Jyotirmaya Das may not be a household name yet, but his work at Otech Soft Solutions is steadily adding to Odisha’s growing reputation in the tech sector. His journey shows that with clarity of purpose, commitment to people, and steady execution, it’s entirely possible to build a global-facing enterprise right from the heart of Eastern India.
