Building collapse in Bhiwandi: 3 dead, ongoing rescue effort

In Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, a ground-plus-two storey building collapsed, killing three people and possibly trapping seven others. Prem and Prince are two of the 14 individuals who have so far been saved.Since the building collapsed at 2 PM on April 29, the rescue effort has lasted more than 19 hours. For the purpose of saving those caught under debris, police teams, the Target Disaster Response Force (TDRF), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been dispatched.

The deceased have been identified as Navnath Sawant, 43, a driver who had gone to a warehouse in the building, Lalita Ravi Mahto, 26, who lived on the second floor with her husband and two children, and Sona Mukesh Kori, 5, who was found dead after being pulled from the rubble around 9.30 p.m. The third death was reported late in the evening.Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, previously visited the scene of the disaster and then went to the Indira Gandhi Hospital on Saturday night to meet with those hurt in the collapse. He also promised each of the deceased’s relatives aid worth 5 lakh.
