The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday conducted searches at various locations in Kolkata linked to Trinamool Congress leader and expelled MP Mahua Moitra in connection with the cash-for-query case.
According to sources “Teams are carrying out searches at various locations, including one in the Alipore area related to Mahua Moitra,” an official said. Reports stated teams of the centrl probe agency reached out Mahua’s resident in Kolkata and other cities early this morning and started out the operation.
Sources also spoke about Moitra, who was expelled from Parliament on December 8 after the Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee held her guilty of “unethical conduct” and committing “serious misdemeanours”. represented West Bengal’s Krishnanagar constituency, She was accused of asking questions in Parliament allegedly in exchange for cash and gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

The Lokpal had earlier this week asked the CBI to probe the allegations against Moitra and submit a report within six months. The TMC has yet again given Moitra the ticket to contest from the Krishnanagar constituency in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Mahua moitra is accused of accepting bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for asking his questions in the Parliament. She is also accused of sharing her parliamentary login-credentials with the businessman.
Mahua Moitra has denied accepting bribes. She claimed she had shared the credentials to have the businessman’s staff type out her parliamentary queries on the official portal.
