Chhattisgarh IAS Officer Trainees Gain Insights On Odisha Millets Mission

Three IAS Officer Trainees from the Chhattisgarh cadre’s 2022 batch attended a noteworthy meeting today in Bhubaneswar where they were briefed on the creative projects of the Odisha Millets Mission (OMM). The purpose of the meeting, which was presided over by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Odisha, was to discuss the highlights of the most recent International Convention on Millets and to offer insights into the accomplishments of the OMM.

Yuvraj Marmat, Assistant Collector, Raigarh; Prakhar Chandrakar, Assistant Collector, Kanker; and Namrata Choubey, Assistant Collector, Baloda Bazaar, Bhatapara, were the honored guests. The OMM Scheme Officer opened the meeting by summarizing the goals of the mission, the pressing need for millet revival, and the significant accomplishments made during the International Convention on Millets. Because of its all-encompassing strategy for millet revival, which spans from the farm to the consumer, the Odisha Millets Mission has garnered recognition on a national and international level.

The young officers were informed about the OMM framework, the Department’s incentives for marginal farmers to produce millet, and the efforts to empower women’s self-help groups (WSHGs) by means of millet-based enterprises. The discussion also covered landrace seed systems and multi-stakeholder consultations for millet promotion in a range of industries, including sports, hospitality, healthcare, and education. Views from the International Convention on Millets, featuring Ricky Kej’s Millet Song, were presented to give a thorough overview of the goal.
