Dr. Shilpak Ambule, the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, gave a briefing on India-Singapore Business Relations to the high-level delegation from Odisha, which was led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, on the first day of their visit to Singapore.
The group was briefed by the High Commissioner on recent developments pertaining to trade and commerce between the two nations. He also emphasized how Indian states like Odisha can help to deepen these bilateral ties, particularly in areas like petrochemicals and chemicals, renewable energy, green fuels, and skill development. Following the High Commissioner’s briefing, the Chief Minister presided over a number of meetings.
The first meeting took place with Dr. Edward Morton, the founder of CT Metrix, and covered advancements in semiconductors, medical equipment manufacturing, IT/ITeS, and smart city solutions. Chief Minister Majhi encouraged Morton to come to Odisha and look into the business potential the state has to offer and promised that the government will take all necessary aggressive steps to guarantee the growth of a strong electronics ecosystem in the state.
The following meeting was with Visa Group Limited Director Vivek Agarwal. The chief minister urged the Visa Group to boost value-added products, enhance capacity, and generate more jobs in the state’s ferro-chrome and steel industries. Rabin Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of Orind Singapore Pte Ltd, who is seeking to invest in the biofertilizer industry, also met with the delegation. The Chief Minister promised Jhunjhunwala all the assistance he needed from the Odisha government and encouraged him to establish the hospital there.
Following the sessions, the Chief Minister’s delegation went to Sembcorp Industries Ltd. to learn more about Singapore’s progress in renewable energy. The clearance of Sembcorp’s Green Ammonia project in Odisha was announced by Chief Minister Majhi. This supports the state’s efforts to draw in investments in the fields of green fuels, renewable energy, and associated industry. The conversations looked at ways to work together to develop environmentally friendly infrastructure and bolster Odisha’s standing as a major green investment destination. The Indian High Commissioner in Singapore arranged a supper for the Chief Minister and the delegation from the state of Odisha to round off the day.
