China has been re-imposing COVID-19 lockdowns across several parts of the country after over 100 cases of COVID-19 were reported in 11 provinces over the past about a week. The recent outbreak of coronavirus in China was reported on October 16, when a group of fully vaccinated senior citizens were tested positive for COVID-19 in China’s Shanghai. 103 of the 133 infections reported over the weekend reportedly originated from 13 tour groups
Mi Feng, a spokesman at the National Health Commission (NHC) stated that since October 17, there have been multiple scattered local outbreaks in China, and they’re expanding rapidly. There is an increasing risk that the outbreak will spread even further.
Further, the health officials have warned that the number of cases could rise and have ramped up testing to fight the outbreak. The government further imposed entry restrictions in the capital city of Beijing, making it mandatory for travellers from COVID-19-affected areas to present a negative COVID-19 report and 14-days of mandatory quarantine.
