There is no respite from the bone-chilling winter in Odisha. The state has been seeing a continuous drop in mercury levels for the past week. While several places in the state witnessed severe chilly wintry conditions, few places in Odisha received mild snowfall as well.
The gripping winter has resulted in people mostly staying indoors, thereby affecting the daily lives and livelihood of several families. According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry weather will prevail in the State for the next four days. The minimum temperature (night temperature) is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days and no significant change will be seen thereafter.

Yesterday Daringbadi was recorded as the coldest place in the State with a minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius while nine places recorded temperatures below 12 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, mild snowfalls were witnessed in the Koida, Tensa, and Kalamang areas of the Sundergarh district. A thick blanket of snow was seen covering the surface. According to sources, the night temperature in the area dropped to as low as seven degrees Celsius, hitting normal life hard.
“Usually we see severe cold wave conditions and snowfall in Koida area in the month of January. While the temperature was hovering between 8 and 10 degrees in the last two days, we feel that it has dropped to below seven degrees Celsius. As we are out on morning walk today, we saw a thick blanket of snowfall on vehicles, playground, and other surface areas,” said a jogger.
