Congress Complains To EC Against BJP, Cites Poll Code ‘Violations’ In 20 Cases Across States

On Monday, the Congress said that it has filed at least 20 complaints with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several of its prominent campaigners, requesting that the party take appropriate action for “blatant violations” of the Model Code of Conduct. A party delegation led by Rajiv Shukla, Gurdeep Singh Sappal, Supriya Shrinate, and others went to the Election Commission to file charges against the BJP for poll code violations in various states, according to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, who took to X.

The Congress has filed numerous complaints against the BJP, alleging that it manipulated electronic vote machines (EVOs), captured booths in Assam, made “vicious” and “malicious” remarks by key BJP leaders in Rajasthan, and circulated fake news against its poll manifesto. The Congress complaint, which it is representing against Yogi Adityanath, claims that the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh misrepresented the party’s manifesto. It asserted that in an attempt to stir up religious feelings and sway the polls, the Chief Minister made up the idea that Congress intended to establish Sharia rule.

The party also charged that Anurag Thakur, a key BJP politician and Union Minister, had made aggressive and deceptive remarks to create the impression that the Congress platform was biased in favor of a particular community. The electoral heat appears to be turning to the poll panel ahead of the third phase of voting on May 7, as the BJP also filed a complaint against the establishment party earlier in the day. A team from the BJP, headed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and national spokesman Anil Baluni, filed a complaint against the Congress with the EC, claiming that the party had circulated a manipulated and counterfeit film of Home Minister Amit Shah in an attempt to sabotage the election process.
