Dhenkanal – Dhenkanal Police has organized a debate competition on the occasion of ‘Cyber Security Month’ at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal. The competition was held under the theme “Social Media: A Blessing or a Curse for Today’s Youth” to raise public awareness on the responsible use of social media.
Students from all disciplines participated enthusiastically in the event and presented diverse perspectives on how social media influences young minds, shapes communication patterns and impacts mental health and privacy. The contestants highlighted issues such as misinformation, online addiction, data privacy, cyber threats and the essential role of digital literacy in ensuring a safe online environment.
The event aimed to sensitize students and the wider community about the growing challenges of cyber security and the need for responsible digital behaviour. It also encouraged the youth to use social media constructively for education, creativity and social change.
Faculty members from IIMC Dhenkanal attended the event and interacted with the students. The debate competition ended with appreciation for the students’ strong arguments and awareness towards contemporary digital issues. The collaboration between IIMC, Dhenkanal and Dhenkanal Police was widely appreciated as a step towards increasing media literacy and cyber safety awareness among the youth.
