Election Commission Lifts Model Code Of Conduct After Poll Results

With the announcement of the Odisha Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on March 16, a model code of conduct was put into place, however it has since been withdrawn. The Election Commission announced in a letter to the Union Cabinet Secretary and state chief secretaries that the “model code of conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect” following the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha elections, assembly by-polls in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, and some assembly by-polls.

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which went into effect on March 16, was removed by the ECI. The Election Commission announces the election schedule, and that date is when the provisions of the MCC become into effect. They stay in effect until the election is over.

In a related event, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das was given the results of the recently ended Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections by Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha Shri Nikunja Bihari Dhal on Thursday at the Raj Bhavan. Additionally, the CEO gave the Governor the notification pertaining to the composition of the recently elected Odisha Legislative Assembly. On this occasion, the Election Commission of India officials were also in attendance. On this particular occasion, the Governor expressed gratitude to the CEO and other authorities for the seamless organization of the Odisha Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
