Top 20 Most Inspirational Personalities Of Odisha 2020: “Titan in Crisis”
Earlier in March this year, when the entire nation was locked up inside the home due to COVID-19 pandemic, an Odia cine star was helping the migrant workers return home safely. Sabyasachi Mishra, the Ollywood heartthrob not only offered assistance to migrant workers but also arranged transport, hospitalization, ration and finance for them during the testing times. In the last four months, the actor has arranged the arrival of hundreds of Odias in around 35 buses, and many more by special trains, from states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kerala. It all started when India enforced a strict lockdown on March 25 post which people sent messages on his social media handles, seeking his help and intervention.
“Earlier, people had watched me as a hero on the big screen. But I felt it was the right time to translate that image into reality. Initially, I was a bit skeptical since I wasn’t sure if I could be of any help to them. But with God’s grace and blessings of my well-wishers, I decided to step in and tried my best to solve as many problems as I could,” he firmly said.
Few months ago, he arranged a nearly-packed chartered flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) carrying several Odia people stranded in that country owing to COVID-19. But the actor’s assistance to people wasn’t only limited to transport. He also offered monetary assistance to migrants and others who were stuck in various parts of the country in the early phases of the lockdown. He set up a ‘mini control room’ at home to help the stranded Odia people.
After helping them reach home safely, the actor would interact with the migrant workers through video calls to understand their situation and mentally support them. He even donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Mishra did all of this through his trust, Smile Please, which was formed to provide a platform to differently-abled youths for a career in acting. Sabyasachi continues to win hearts as ‘COVID-19 saviour’ as he promised to offer all kinds of assistance to needy people in the future as well.
Notably, Sabyasachi, an engineering graduate, started his career by starring in over 200 Odia music albums. He then had a dream debut in Ollywood. His debut film ‘Pagala Premi’ (2017) was a run-away hit that earned him Best Actor award at Odisha State Film Awards. Thereafter, he never looked back. His skillful acting, charming smile and larger-than-life personality has made a favorite among the masses. The turnaround came in the year 2013 when he won the Filmfare Awards East ‘Best actor’ award for his movie ‘Mu Eka Tumara’ post which he became an overnight sensation in the state. If that was not enough, Sabyasachi has also tried playback singing. He has sung the title songs of “Pilata Bigidigala” and “Hela Mate Prema Jara”. His song ‘Maya Re Baya’ went viral on social media, as well.
Apart from Ollywood, the film star has gained massive popularity in the South film industry as well. Some of his Telugu films have tasted success in the box office. He has a Bengali film to his credit as well. While the shooting of Odia films is yet to resume post lockdown, everybody can’t wait to see their reel hero Sabyasachi on the big screen again. Sabyasachi, too is excited to entertain his fans through his films. Well, we hope Sabyasachi keeps inspiring scores of youngsters through his film and humanitarian acts.
