Once considered strong title contenders for IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have found themselves in a worrying slump, losing four consecutive matches after a high-flying start. Despite the initial excitement surrounding their aggressive batting lineup, the 2016 champions have failed to maintain momentum, struggling to even cross the 200-run mark in their recent outings.
SRH made headlines in their tournament opener with a record-breaking 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals, falling just one run short of the highest team total in IPL history. The performance sparked speculation about whether they could become the first team to breach the 300-run barrier. However, the spark quickly fizzled out.
The form of their explosive opening duo—Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma—has been underwhelming this season, with the pair contributing just 84 runs together across four matches without a single fifty-run stand. Ishan Kishan, who kicked off the season with a century, has also faded, managing just 21 runs in the next four innings, including three single-digit scores.
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, in his column for Sportstar, compared SRH’s reckless approach to thrill-seeking youngsters in fast cars. “Speed thrills but sometimes kills. Their batting resembles youngsters in fancy sports cars running red lights and not getting caught,” he wrote, emphasizing how their aggressive game plan has backfired.
With expectations high and performances dipping, SRH will need to regroup quickly if they hope to revive their IPL 2025 campaign. The challenge lies not just in recapturing their explosive style, but in balancing aggression with consistency—a formula they seem to have lost in the current season.
