In a novel effort, the state of Rajasthan will provide financial assistance to transgender people seeking SRS (sex reassignment surgery) so they can live with dignity and in accordance with their actual selves.
The state government would offer financial support for gender change surgery for transgender people up to Rs 2.5 lakh. In addition to this, the Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme is also offered, according to Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Tikaram Julie.
Procedures including vaginoplasty, clitero, labiaplasty, penectomy, and orchiectomy are carried out during a male to female surgery. Reconstruction operations for the penile and scrotum from feminine to male are carried out. Breast augmentation, mastectomy, facial feminization surgery, and voice surgery are performed nongenitally.
The state government of Rajasthan runs a number of programmes to support the transgender community under the auspices of the Rajasthan Transgender Welfare Board. The government runs old age homes, pensions, skill training, and has a 2% reservation in land allotment for residential purposes. Transgender people have also been given identity cards.
This has led to the appointment of counsellors at Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Ajmer. There will be payments for allowance, rent, and scholarships for higher education.
More than 20,000 residents in the state identify as transgender. For this initiative, the state government has additionally set aside a “Utthan Kosh” of Rs. 10 crore.
