Good news for students: Indian universities can offer dual degrees, UGC prepares draft

Indian students can now earn a dual or joint degree from higher education institutions in India and abroad. The notice may be issued soon after the UGC has prepared the plan. After the UGC seals it, students can take their courses at any foreign educational institution after admitting them to an Indian educational institution. But the degree or diploma certificate will be issued only by Indian educational institutions.

Under the proposal, Indian higher education institutions can negotiate with foreign educational institutions for Credit4 Recognition, Credit Transfer and Degree. But this rule does not apply to online and distance learning. So there will be criteria for obtaining a double degree.

Indian educational institutions offering dual or joint degrees must be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAC). In addition, you have to score 3.01 points. In addition, the National Institute of Institutions Ranking Framework (NIRF) must be included in the top 100 universities. All of these institutions will then seek permission from the UGC to negotiate with foreign institutions.

Under the proposed rules, the degree or diploma awarded jointly will be equivalent to the degree or diploma awarded by an Indian institution. However, direct or indirect franchise arrangements between foreign and Indian educational institutions will not be allowed.
