The State administration has set a goal to eradicate drug trafficking within the next two years in an effort to address the problem. The state government intends to change the current legislation as needed to accomplish this goal, which will include tougher penalties and fines for individuals found guilty. Prithviraj Harichandan, the excise minister, stressed the significance of committed work by excise officers at the state and local levels in preventing illicit transactions. In order to ensure that excise laws are followed and that illegal drug trafficking is prevented, he advised officers to visit different locations.
In a review conference with District Excise Superintendents, Excise Commissioner/Secretary Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar emphasized the importance of effective NDPS Act compliance and frequent crackdowns on illicit drug trafficking and liquor stores. The discussion also covered infrastructure development, departmental work, and officer and staff training initiatives.
It is anticipated that the state’s development and revenue will be significantly impacted by the Odisha government’s attempts to tackle illegal drug trafficking. As one of the top revenue-generating ministries, the Excise Department plays a significant role in the state’s economic growth.
