Three people were killed and eight others injured when a speeding truck crashed into a stationary bus on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway near Nikol on Monday morning, police said.
According to Ahmedabad (Rural) Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat, the incident occurred after a minor collision between a bus and a Kia car. While the bus driver was discussing the matter with the car driver, a truck coming from behind at high speed rammed into the halted bus, killing three passengers on the spot and injuring several others.
The bus, operated by Patel Travels and en route to Vadodara, had stopped on the expressway following the initial collision. The impact of the truck crash was severe, leaving the vehicle heavily damaged.
Rescue teams and police personnel from the Kanbha police station area rushed to the scene, shifting the injured to nearby hospitals and sending the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem. Traffic on the busy expressway was briefly disrupted as authorities cleared the wreckage.
An investigation is underway to determine whether overspeeding, driver negligence, or lack of warning signals led to the tragic accident, officials said.
