Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a controversial member of the Calcutta High Court, is planning to leave the judiciary and enter politics.
With his shocking declaration on Sunday, controversial Justice Gangopadhyay, who recently ruled that a division bench led by Justice Soumen Sen was unlawful and claimed that the latter was employed by a political party (the Trinamool Congress), shocked the legal and political communities.
Justice Gangopadhyay announced that Monday would be his last day of employment. He also mentioned that on Tuesday morning, he will submit his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, and Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Judge Gangopadhyay lashed out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for widespread corruption in West Bengal, stating that he couldn’t accept this as a Bengali.
“They (TMC) criticised some of my judgments calling them motivated and challenged me to come out of the court amid the people… so I am fulfilling their wish as it’s not possible to reach out to the common people from the courtroom,” Justice Gangopadhyay said during an interview with Bengali news channel ABP Ananda.
