The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for Monday and Tuesday, warning residents of heatwave conditions. With maximum temperatures in the capital reaching 38.2°C on Sunday—three degrees above the seasonal average—authorities have advised people to stay indoors during peak hours, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and remain well-hydrated.
Similar conditions are being reported across several parts of the country, prompting widespread heatwave warnings. According to the IMD, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat, and western Rajasthan. Isolated pockets of east Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana (including Chandigarh and Delhi), Himachal Pradesh, and west Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience extreme temperatures.
In addition to the inland regions, hot and humid weather is forecast for coastal areas of Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa. The IMD has placed a red alert for parts of Rajasthan on Tuesday, where severe heatwave conditions are expected to intensify.
Authorities across affected states are urging residents to take necessary precautions, as temperatures continue to rise across northern and western India, marking the early onset of a potentially intense summer season.
