The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts in Odisha, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist till October 15. According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, on October 13, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also likely in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput, and Nabarangpur.
On October 14, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are all predicted to have thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds (30–40 kmph). Similar meteorological conditions are highly anticipated in the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam, where the yellow alert is still in effect as of October 15. The IMD said that there have been no warnings for the four days after October 15, suggesting that the weather would probably improve after that.
