In Conversation with Budding Author Sunaainaa Mohanty

Sunaainaa Mohanty is a budding author and has written the book “ Expressions : Rhythmical Thoughts”. She is learning the art of penning down her thoughts rhythmically.

Q1) How did you understand your calling as an author ? What was your first writing experience ?

Answer:  Honestly my calling as a writer developed very silently. Talking about the days when I was in 7th standard (2015), as far as I remember I wrote my first ever poem during the history class. I used to feel very inferior to those who scored more than me and that’s the only reason I didn’t show my poems to anyone. Years passed. Collecting all my courage I shared my poem on periods in my family group in 2019 and since then I’ve never looked back. It’s my father who has always encouraged me in becoming what I am today. He had gifted me a diary and asked me to pen down everything that happened to me the whole day and somewhere I feel the practice helped me a lot and the confidence grew more and more each day. Today am working as a social media manager and content writer, a moderator, also a poet and author of the book Expressions: Rhythmical Thoughts which has the best of all my poems written between 2018-2021.

Q2) How did you decide the plot for “Expressions : Rhythmical Thoughts”. Give us a short brief about the book .

Answer : I wrote the poems when situations used to hit me hard at the meeting of my eyebrows with no intention of getting them published. Poetry is way of expression to me. So as I said the book is a collection of my poems, the best ones to be precise, which were written by me in between 2018-2021. The book starts with a poem to which each one of us can relate to and continues to cover each emotion what goes in the mind of an adolescent.  I’ve put up all my feelings into the poems as a teenager (then) and the reader will absolutely feel nostalgic while reading the book as the lines have almost everything that each one of us have gone through during our adolescence period.

Q3) Nowadays a majority of the youth is much more focused on social media rather than reading books. What is your view on this topic ?

Answer: As a writer and social media manager books are everything to me but my life revolves around social media. No doubt  social media has become a vital part of all our lives but we must learn how to balance these two. The youth needs to use social media and its features in a productive way rather than wasting time and ruining their careers. What I believe is we must  technology but technology must not use us and when it starts using us we get into such a trap that there’s no going back. Books can never be replaced by anything existing in the world. Books are the pillars that help us in building our home, that is, our career. So my message to the youth is social media is a career option which can only be built by reading books. Everything on this earth is written somewhere, what we think is already been thought and written by someone else. We just need to read and enhance our skills and thought process.

Q6) We know that there is a lot of hardwork that goes behind the launching of books .From preparing the final manuscript to writing the first draft till publishing. Tell us how your experience was and to whom would you dedicate your success in this entire process?

Answer : Am a very pen and paper person so one fine day when I was going through my diary, I realized there were a total of 90 or 92 poems (2015-2021) written by me and it was during the lockdown I showed up to my father. He gave me an idea to get them published, the best ones, to be precise. I never ever expected that the publication company would agree and publish my poems. Notion press is the publication company and  I submitted my manuscript. I  received an email in 3 days that the book has been proofread and that I can continue with further procedure. It all happened during the lockdown and June 8, 2022 was the date when the book got delivered at my home. Holding a book which had my name on it made me feel something being a poet even I can’t express.

I would like to take this opportunity and thank my Baba who has contributed immensely in manifesting everything. His support and encouragement is something that has always pushed me to take all the baby steps and make a big difference. He is my best friend with whom I have serious late night conversations, he is my superhero who has been a shield protecting me from every bad happening, he is my Baba.
