India counters Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif’s UN ‘victory’ claim: Says runways destroyed, hangars set ablaze

India on Saturday strongly countered Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks at the UN General Assembly, where he claimed Islamabad had “won the war” against India’s Operation Sindoor. Responding to his statement, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot said Pakistan’s military had itself “pleaded directly for a cessation to the fighting” following the operation.

Calling Sharif’s comments yet another attempt at “glorifying terrorism,” Gahlot noted that evidence of Pakistan’s destroyed runways and burnt hangars was available. “If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it,” she said.

At the UNGA, Sharif had accused India of “unprovoked aggression” after the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir and claimed Pakistan’s response was “in accordance with self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.”

Gahlot reminded the assembly that on April 25, 2025, at the UN Security Council, Pakistan had shielded The Resistance Front—a Pakistan-backed terror outfit—from being held accountable for the massacre of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.
