India urged the Trudeau administration to take decisive action to stop protesters from amassing near embassies and consulates and desecrating the Indian flag.In response to planned protests by terrorist groups in support of Khalistan outside the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and two consulates in Toronto and Vancouver on July 8, India has served a demarche on Canada. It has urged the government of Justin Trudeau to take decisive action to stop protesters from amassing near missions and consulates, defiling the Indian National Flag, attaching flyers or other objects to the boundary fence, and hurling projectiles into Indian diplomatic facilities in Canada.
While the memo verbal was delivered to Global Affairs Canada early on Tuesday (IST), the Canadian High Commissioner had been summoned to the South Block on Monday to express Indian concerns in a direct manner. The Trudeau administration was reminded by the Indian High Commissioner in Canada that Sikh militants had fired two smoke grenades into the High Commission building on March 23, 2023.The rallies are being organised by the US-based, outlawed group SFJ, whose principal Canadian contact, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was assassinated on June 19 in Surrey, Vancouver, during an inter-gang conflict.
Despite the Narendra Modi administration’s use of diplomatic and intelligence channels to discuss the threat presented by designated SFJ convenor G S Pannu with Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany, these governments treat these extremists with kid gloves in the guise of the right to protest. However, New Delhi has made the decision to not accept the destruction and burning of the Indian national flag lying down, and if the July 8 rallies in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver turn violent, there will be repercussions.
