According to a crucial NITI Aayog paper, India must aim to become a $30 trillion economy with a per capita annual income of $18,000 by 2047 in order to qualify as a developed country. According to the “Vision for Viksit Bharat @ 2047, An Approach Paper,” by that time, the GDP would need to expand nine times from its current level of $3.36 trillion and the per capita income would need to increase eight times from its current level of $2,392 annually.
“The 21st century can be India’s century, as the country pole-vaults into the future confident of its capabilities. It is the 5th largest economy in the world today and by most estimates will be the world’s 3rd largest economy by 2027 as its GDP crosses $5 trillion,” the document read.
India has the potential to grow its economy to $30 trillion and achieve developed nation status by 2047. One Viksit Bharat, that is. The manifesto claims that India is now prepared for takeoff having made remarkable progress in its journey of transformation.
“We have demonstrated the capability to take a quantum leap like many other nations that have achieved similar leaps by taking advantage of a turning point in their histories,” the NITI Aayog said.
According to the statement, a vision for Viksit Bharat @2047 will have specific objectives, a plan and set of guiding principles to attain those objectives, and explicit actions based on predetermined themes to carry out the plan. It said, “All of these combined would constitute a vision for Viksit Bharat@2047.”
