India On High Alert To Prevent Influx Of Illegal Migrants From Sri Lanka

The Indian Coast Guard is on high alert along the maritime border with Sri Lanka to prevent any illegal migrants. Indian Coast Guard hovercraft operating from Mandapam base near Rameshwaram.

People have been protesting since March 31 against President Rajapaksa and his government, asking him to step down. Indian Coast Guard hovercraft are on high alert to prevent the influx of illegal migrants from Sri Lanka due to the ongoing political and economic crisis there.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had fled his official home as protesters surrounded his residence on Saturday said reports. Some protestors have entered the residence of the President holding Srilankan flags and helmets. Security forces fired teargas and water cannons to disperse the protesters but later withdrew and resorted to firing in the air.
