After a 1-0 win over Japan at the GBK Sports Complex Hockey Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, India’s men’s hockey team earned bronze at the 2022 Asia Cup. Raj Kumar Pal (7′) scored the only goal in a close game. Following an entertaining 4-4 tie with South Korea on Tuesday, reigning champions India came out with purpose and scored a field goal, then defended in numbers to secure the deal.
Japan had seven penalty corners to India’s two, but India won in circle penetration 11-10. India was down to 10 men in the final minute of the game, but they held on to earn their second bronze medal in the Asia Cup. The Indian Rifle team opened their account at the current International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Baku, Azerbaijan, with a gold medal in the 10m air rifle Team Women’s category early on Tuesday. Elavenil Valarivan, Ramita, and Shreya Agrawal won the gold medal game 17-5 over Denmark.Serbia leads the medals standings with two gold medals and a total of four medals, while India is fifth.After two rounds of qualifying on Monday, they advanced to the gold-medal round. Denmark, represented by Anna Nielsen, Emma Koch, and Rikke Maeng Ibsen, had defeated the Indian team in the last-eight stage, but the Indians came through when it counted. Poland took bronze in the competition.The Indian men’s air rifle team was defeated 10-16 by Croatia in their bronze-medal match. The tables were turned here as well, when Rudrankksh Patil, Paarth Makhija, and Dhanush Srikanth defeated the Croats in the last-eight round.
