Today is a proud day for India. The Indian national flag will be flown at the UN Security Council today. The country has been elected to the UN Security Council for two years. Whose term begins today. Four other countries, including India, have been elected as permanent members. In all of these countries, the national flag is scheduled to be hoisted in a special ceremony.
Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Ambassador TSS Tirumurti is also scheduled to hoist and address the ceremony. India will chair the UN Security Council from August 2021. It will then be chairman for a month in 2022. The tradition of hoisting the national flag of member states has been in place since 2018. Kazakhstan is the first country to start this tradition.
Along with India, Morocco, Kenya, Ireland and Mexico have been elected as temporary members on the UN Security Council. In addition to these five countries, Estonia, Nigeria, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam are permanent members, while China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States are permanent members.
