A major portion of the cabin crew took sick leave on Saturday, causing delays on 55% of IndiGo’s domestic flights, according to sources in the aviation sector who claim they may have attended an Air India recruitment drive. The majority of the IndiGo cabin crew workers who took sick leave participated in Phase 2 of Air India’s recruiting campaign on Saturday, the sources stated.
The largest airline in India, IndiGo, presently offers 1,600 local and international flights per day. When PTI asked IndiGo and Air India for remarks on the situation, neither company responded.The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s website reports that on Saturday, 45.2% of IndiGo’s domestic flights were on time (July 2). Comparatively, on Saturday, the on-time rates for Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First, and AirAsia India were 77.1%, 80.4%, 86.3%, 88.8%, and 92.3 percent, respectively (July 2). As the day came to a close, more than 900 IndiGo flights had been rescheduled as a result of the rush to land a job with the national flag airline. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chairman Arun Kumar stated that they have asked the airline for explanation.
