ISKCON’s Kolkata vice president, Radharamn Das, reported on X that the organization’s Namhatta Centre in Bangladesh was set on fire. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) alleged that its centre in Dhaka was attacked earlier on Saturday.
In his post, Das stated, “The ISKCON Namhatta Centre in Bangladesh was burned down. The deities of Sri Sri Laxmi Narayan, along with all items inside the temple, were completely destroyed. The centre is located in Dhaka.”
He further explained, “Between 2 and 3 AM today, miscreants set fire to the Shri Shri Radha Krishna Temple and the Shri Shri Mahabhagya Lakshmi Narayan Temple, both part of the Hare Krishna Namhatta Sangha, located in Dhour village, under the jurisdiction of Turag Police Station in Dhaka district.”
Das added that the fire was started by lifting the tin roof at the back of the temple and using petrol or octane. He also provided the address of the location: H-02, R-05, Ward-54, DNCC, Dhaka 1230.
Later, Das told PTI that the community continues to face targeted attacks, which he said have gone “unabated.” Despite ISKCON raising the issue with Bangladesh’s interim government, he lamented that “little action” has been taken by the police or administration to address the community’s concerns.
