BJP MLA BY Vijayendra on Thursday criticized the Karnataka Assembly’s resolution opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, accusing the Siddaramaiah-led government of “forcefully passing” it. He alleged that while PM Modi aims to bring transparency to Waqf, the state government is shielding land grabbers.
Vijayendra further accused Congress leaders of being involved in land scams and vowed that BJP would expose them. Additionally, he condemned the decision to grant 4% reservation for minorities in government contracts, calling it appeasement politics, and announced protests against both issues.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, has become a contentious issue as it proposes key changes to the management of Waqf properties. The original Waqf Act of 1995, enacted to regulate these properties, has faced criticism over mismanagement, corruption, and encroachments.
Aimed at addressing these challenges, the amendment introduces measures such as digitization, stricter audits, increased transparency, and legal provisions to reclaim illegally occupied properties. While supporters argue that the bill will bring much-needed reforms, critics remain divided on its implications.
