
A kidney that was grown in a genetically altered pig functioned properly according to the reports. The kidney was grown in this pig and it functioned normally during a ground breaking procedure by U.S. Doctors. If the tecnique proves generally successful and it could revolutionize organ transplant. This could greatly expand the pool of available organs. The surgery was conducted in September at NYU Langone Health in New York City and involved a patient who was brain dead. He was kept alive through ventilator support.
