Low pressure forms over Southwest Bay of Bengal: IMD

 The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has informed that a low-pressure area has formed over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal early on Wednesday morning.

The weather department took to its official Twitter handle and quoted- “Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal a Low-Pressure Area has formed over the same region and the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid­tropospheric levels.”

The Met officials also issued a heatwave alert for parts of Odisha for the next three days from March 16 to 18. The temperatures are likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Angul, Nayagarh, Khurda, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj on Wednesday, and Sambalpur and Jharsuguda on Thursday. The heatwave will continue in Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Angul, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda on March 18.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, a temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Angul. This was followed by Sonepur (39.5), Baripada (39.2), Titilagarh (39), and Boudh (39) While Sambalpur witnessed a temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius, Bhadrak recorded 38.2 degree Celsius temperature. Likewise, the State Capital City, Bhubaneswar, sizzled at 38.1 degrees Celsius, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Talcher recorded a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius today.
