Madhubani Art is a type of Indian and Nepalese painting practised in India and Nepal’s Mithila area. It was called after the Madhubani District of Bihar, India, where it was born. This artwork is created with a variety of instruments, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, as well as natural dyes and pigments. It is distinguished by eye-catching geometrical designs. There contains ritual content for specific occasions like birth or marriage, as well as holidays like Holi, Surya Shasti, Kali Puja, Upanayana, and Durga Puja.Madhubani art (Mithila painting) was historically done by women from diverse ethnicities in the Indian subcontinent’s Mithila area.
It originated in the Madhubani area of Bihar’s Mithila region. Madhubani is also a prominent location for the export of these artworks. This painting as a form of wall art was widely practised throughout the region; the more recent development of painting on paper and canvas primarily originated in the villages surrounding Madhubani, and it is these latter developments that led to the term “Madhubani art” being used alongside “Mithila Painting.”Madhubani paintings mostly represent people and their interactions with environment, as well as scenes and deities from ancient epics. Natural items like as the sun and moon, as well as sacred plants such as tulsi, are frequently shown in paintings, as are images from the royal court and social occasions such as weddings. In general, no place is left vacant in these paintings; the gaps are filled with paintings of flowers, animals, birds, and even geometric shapes.
