Manisha Padhi, the nation’s first female ADC, attends swearing-in ceremony for governor of Odisha

As the new governor of Odisha, Hari Babu Kambhampati took the oath of office on Friday. However, he was joined by Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi, the country’s first female Aide-de-Camp (ADC), marking a significant milestone for the Indian military. During the occasion, Ms. Padhi, who is from Odisha, made history in her role.

Her presence serves as a symbol of the advancement of gender roles in the Indian military. Ms. Padhi, a former Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer, is descended from her father, retired IAF officer Manoranjan Padhi. It’s worth noting that on November 29, 2023, Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi, an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer from the 2015 batch, became the country’s first female Aide-de-Camp (ADC).

When an officer in the military helps a higher-ranking officer, they are referred to as “Aide-de-Camp.” The letters “ADC” are used to identify those who now hold or have held the job, which is regarded as prominent in the nation. In November 2023, Ms. Padhi began serving as the Governor of Mizoram’s ADC. When Hari Babu Kambhampati was the governor, she served as his ADC. Ms. Padhi was employed in IAF stations in Bidar, Pune, and Bhatinda before her deployments.
