According to a top English daily, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani has entered the competition to buy world-renowned English football team Liverpool FC.
The FSG are willing to sell for £4 billion, according to the Mirror, and there is a bigger desire to buy the Merseyside club outright. Ambani, who has a net worth of around £90 billion and is ranked as the eighth richest person in the world by Forbes, has already inquired about joining the club.
FSG, who took over the Liverpool club in 2010, startled the football world earlier this week when they stated that they would be open to hearing offers for the club. “There have been a number of recent changes in ownership and reports of changes in ownership at EPL teams, and unsurprisingly, we are asked about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool on a regular basis,” FSG stated in a statement last week.”FSG has received numerous expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become Liverpool shareholders.” FSG has previously stated that “we would consider new shareholders under the right terms and conditions if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.”
The Anfied outfit has had tremendous success under FSG, with Jurgen Klopp’s team winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and European Super Cup in recent years.Parties from the Gulf and the United States are also involved. This is not the first time that such a report has surfaced. According to media reports, Mukesh Ambani and Subrata Roy submitted bids for Liverpool in August 2010. Ambani was dubbed the “World’s Richest Sports Team Owner” in 2008 after purchasing the Mumbai Indians, one of the top teams in the Indian Premier League.
