The six-hour Odisha Bandh observed by Left parties from 6 am to 12 noon on July 15 disrupted the normal life in the state.
The protest was held due to the unprecedented hike in the price of petroleum products, cooking gas and essential commodities. Members of the left parties were seen picketing on the roads at various junctions, thereby affecting vehicular movement. Shops and business establishments remained shut in many parts of the State while petrol pumps remain closed in Bhubaneswar.
Bandh supporters staged rail roko protests at various railway stations including Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, and Gunupur, thereby disrupting railway traffic. Notably, the Howrah-Chennai Express was detained at Balasore railway station.
