Amit Shah, the union home minister, stated on Sunday that the Northeastern states’ fiscal responsibility is crucial to making India’s economy the second largest in the world. Speaking during the 70th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Guwahati, Shah claimed that the region’s development had been impeded for decades by insurgency, a lack of rail and road connectivity, and the neglect of past governments.
Shah addressed the chief ministers of all the north-eastern states as well as senior government officials, saying, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union government has made many efforts in the last eight years to bring peace to the Northeast, to increase all connectivity, and to give priority to the development of this region.” “To put the region on the path of development, PM Modi’s government strived to grasp the fundamental concerns and developed solutions to them.”
The chief ministers of the area were urged by Shah, the NEC chair, to “maintain financial discipline” in their states since it was “important to make the country’s economy the second largest in the world.”
According to Amit Shah, the Center prioritises natural product certification, digital technology application in agriculture, and organic farming. The Northeast is also committed to being free of drugs and floods, according to the Centre under Modi’s leadership, he added.
The Union minister also exhorted the chief ministers to keep single-use plastics away from the states. He added that hydroelectric power facilities serve two purposes in addition to energy production: flood control and energy generation.
