Not Millers, Central/Cooperative Agencies To Procure Paddy From Mandi Says Food Minister

According to Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, a central or cooperative agency will oversee paddy procurement instead of the miller purchasing it from the Mandi. Patra has advised that a unique mechanism has been put in place to guarantee the system of paddy procurement’s transparency. He clarified that there will be one officer in charge of each mandi, with one supervisor in control of four or five mandis. Two districts will also be under the supervision of a district collector and minister. Millers can only mill in accordance with the predetermined objectives that will be supplied to them.

Regarding paddy mandis, the government recently took a big choice that included closing the borders with other states while they were buying. The minister will be in charge of district management. There will only be one grain quality check to avoid “Katni-Chhatni.” Token time restrictions may be extended by district magistrates if needed. With this action, millers will be forced to purchase grains in accordance with established guidelines, ending their arbitrary practices. West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh will all have their borders blocked.

Odisha farmers are set to earn the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of around Rs 3,100 per quintal for the first time. Token time restrictions may be extended by District Collectors without the consent of the State government.
