Two Odia officers, Anita Karan and Monalisa Dash, were chosen as President and Secretary General, respectively, of the Indian Forest Service’s (IFS) newly established all-female National Executive Body. This is a historic development for the IFS. Setting a new standard for gender representation in India’s civil services, this is the first time in the association’s history that an all-female staff is in charge of the organization at the national level.
At its most recent General Body Meeting, the IFS Association—one of the 36 organized civil services groups in the nation—announced its new leadership. In addition to Karan and Dash, the executive team consists of Chestha Singh as Literary Secretary, Suvvena Thakur as Treasurer, Dr. Surbhi Rai as Joint Secretary, and Jyotsna Sitling as Patron.
In India’s pursuit of a sustainable green economy, the Indian Forest Service is essential to protecting the country’s forests, wildlife, and environment. In the public services, views toward inclusive leadership and gender equality are changing, as seen by the election of an all-female executive council.
The promotion of Anita Karan and Monalisa Dash is a source of pride for Odisha, highlighting the state’s role in producing the country’s top civil service executives. In addition to being a great occasion for the IFS community, this historic election marks a critical turning point for India’s larger civil services community.
