Odisha Agriculture Department Advises Farmers To Shift Harvested Crops To Safer Places

Due to a low-pressure area over the Andaman Sea, the State government has advised farmers to store their harvested crops in safer locations. This is because the IMD has predicted rain in several districts. Dr. Arabinda Padhee, principal secretary of the department of agriculture and farmers’ empowerment, reported that while paddy crops have been harvested in many locations, harvesting is still ongoing in others. According to Padhee, farmers who have harvested their crops ought to move them to secure locations.

“We are equipped to handle any situation. Our collaboration with the OUAT research team is coordinated. As soon as we receive an IMD alert, we will release a warning. He continued, “A separate advisory will be issued for affected districts.”

Padhee advised the farmers to change the timing of potato planting. This year, 22 lakh farmers have been included in Fasal Bima Yojana. The department will take action on the drought situation after receiving reports from the districts. If crop loss is found anywhere, the insured farmer will get compensation, the secretary informed.
