Odisha strengthens its position as a clean energy investment destination with proposed projects worth ₹1.17 lakh crore and a combined capacity of 11,742 MW across solar, wind, battery storage and other renewable energy segments.

A Major Push Towards Clean Energy

Odisha has taken a significant step towards strengthening its renewable energy sector by securing 18 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) involving proposed investments of approximately ₹1.17 lakh crore. The agreements are expected to support the development of renewable energy projects with a combined proposed capacity of 11,742 MW, marking an important milestone in the state’s clean energy ambitions.

MoUs Signed at the National Renewable Energy Summit

The agreements were signed during the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo were present during the exchange of MoUs. The development reflects the state’s efforts to attract large-scale private investment and strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.

Investments Across Multiple Renewable Energy Segments

The proposed investments cover several areas, including solar power, wind energy, pumped-storage hydropower, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen and hybrid renewable energy projects. These sectors are expected to play an important role in diversifying Odisha’s energy portfolio while supporting the growing electricity requirements of industries and businesses.

Strengthening Odisha’s Industrial and Economic Potential

The proposed projects could create fresh opportunities across the state’s industrial ecosystem. Investments in renewable energy infrastructure may encourage the development of supporting industries, improve energy availability and attract further investment in manufacturing and technology. The expansion of clean energy capacity could also strengthen Odisha’s long-term industrial competitiveness.

Employment and Infrastructure Opportunities

Beyond energy generation, the proposed projects could generate opportunities in engineering, construction, operations, logistics and technical services. Renewable energy development may also encourage skill development and create demand for a trained workforce, benefiting local businesses and professionals.

Towards a Sustainable Energy Future

With these proposed investments, Odisha is seeking to strengthen its position in India’s clean energy transition. The successful implementation of the projects will depend on factors such as land availability, infrastructure development, regulatory approvals and timely execution. If realised, the investments could contribute significantly to the state’s renewable energy capacity and sustainable economic growth.

A New Chapter in Odisha’s Energy Landscape

The signing of 18 MoUs worth approximately ₹1.17 lakh crore signals growing investor interest in Odisha’s renewable energy potential. As India continues to accelerate its transition towards cleaner energy sources, the state has an opportunity to emerge as an important destination for renewable energy development, industrial growth and sustainable investment.
