In a major decision to boost Odisha’s industrial and economic environment, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved a special incentive package for Welspun Group’s flagship projects in Choudwar, Cuttack and Nildungri, Sambalpur. With an investment of over Rs 6,600 crore and employment opportunities for over 20,000 people, the project will usher in a new era of industrial growth and job creation in the state.
The integrated textile manufacturing unit at Choudwar with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore will revive the textile manufacturing process of Choudwar. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the socio-economic structure of the region, creating more than 10,000 direct and equal jobs. The variety of jobs created, from industry to management, requires extensive skills development plans and involves the development of strong human resources in the sector.
The group will also establish a new multi-purpose warehouse on the same site through its group company, Welspun One, which will be used to provide prison and commercial services and create new employment opportunities. An important feature of the Choudwar project is the delayed integration into the agricultural sector, especially when it benefits the cotton farmers of the Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput region.
