Odisha Govt Borrowed Over Rs 21K Cr In Last 9 Months Says CM Majhi

Over the past nine months (June 2024 to February 2025), the Odisha government has borrowed a total of Rs 21,177.99 crore from different sources. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made this announcement during Monday’s state assembly. The borrowing is made up of Rs 7,149.56 crore from the central government, Rs 9,000 crore from the open market, Rs 2,261.16 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Rs 2,750 crore from the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC), and Rs 2,370 crore from the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), according to CM Majhi’s written statement.

In addition, the Chief Minister said in answer to a query from Bhograi BJD MLA Goutam Buddha Das that the net Provident Fund deduction came to Rs 2,352.73 crore. The Chief Minister said that all of the borrowed money is being used for major development projects and capital expenditures, such as roads, electricity, irrigation, urban infrastructure, and disaster relief. The government paid back Rs 14,970.97 crore throughout that time.
