Krushna Chandra Patra, the minister of science and technology for Odisha, defended the state’s law and order situation on Sunday, calling it a tranquil state. He made his comments in reaction to the US State Department’s recent Level 2 travel advice for India, which covers Odisha and advises visitors to “exercise increased caution” because of growing worries about terrorism and criminality in some areas. Speaking to reporters, Minister Patra raised concerns about safety in the US and questioned the rationale for the recommendation. “Is America peaceful right now? There are riots. There is a lot of gun violence. Did Trump not get attacked? “Did the White House not get attacked?” he asked.
“You won’t find an atmosphere like this anywhere else in the world,” the minister emphasized, restating Odisha’s reputation as a state that values peace. He also promised that any problems pertaining to law and order will be handled severely. “Strict action is being taken since our administration does not tolerate criminal activity at all. “People are living in peace in Odisha,” he continued.
The US State Department warned of violent crimes including sexual assault at tourist destinations and other public locations in a Level 2 travel alert for India, including Odisha, on June 16. Additionally, the advise warns that tourist destinations, transit hubs, marketplaces, shopping centers, and government buildings may be the target of sudden or unexpected terrorist strikes.
The advice also highlights the continued risks posed by Maoist extremist (Naxalite) activities in areas of Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and surrounding states, as well as the attacks on law enforcement and government officials.
