Under the projected Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) corridor, the Odisha government intends to build three ring highways totaling 645 km. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presided over a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here, where this was disclosed.
The three ring roads are as follows:
- A 432-km Capital Ring Road from Paradip via Tangi, Saptasajya, and Rameshwar to Puri, proposed to be integrated with the central government’s existing 111-km Capital Region Ring Road project.
- A 148-km Outer Ring Road passing through Jatamundia-Trishulia-Urali in Cuttack district to Balipatna-Pipili-Jatni-Khurda.
- A 65-km Inner Ring Road from Tamando in Khurda district via Chandaka-Pahala-Dhauli.
Plans for a 32-kilometer rail line from Puri to Konark and a 70-kilometer line from Konark to Bhubaneswar via Nimapada would also improve railway infrastructure. These belong to the “Greater Bhubaneswar Region,” which is expected to be crucial to Odisha’s goals of having an economy of USD 1.5 trillion by 2047 and USD 500 billion by 2036.
It is anticipated that the region would see significant industrial expansion as a result of the incorporation of Paradip, a significant port city. sectors including manufacturing, transportation, chemicals, textiles, IT, port-based sectors, and agriculture and fisheries are all expected to grow quickly. Additionally, tourism will receive special attention, utilizing the region’s coastline and cultural advantages.
