Odisha Reels Under Heatwave; 49 Heat-Related Illness Cases Reported

According to the state administration, 49 cases of heat-related ailments have been registered in Odisha as severe heatwave conditions take hold, with some people needing medical assistance. Data gathered up to April 20 shows that Sambalpur district had the most instances (40), followed by Deogarh (6 cases) and Khordha, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar (1 case each), according to Public Health Director Dr. Nilakantha Mishra.

On April 19, one individual was admitted to the hospital because of difficulties brought on by the heat. Dr. Mishra noted, though, that there haven’t been any definite heatstroke deaths or serious hospitalizations recorded as of yet. Authorities have cautioned citizens to take precautions and avoid needless outdoor exposure due to the high temperatures. Jharsuguda reported a scorching 44.8°C around 2:30 PM today, while Sambalpur (42.6°C), Hirakud (41.8°C), and Rourkela (41.2°C) all achieved temperatures above 40°C.
