The economy of India was shattered when COVID hit the country. There were losses all over the country and every sphere of professional work was going into severe depts. Odisha, as a state was also impacted due to COVID. However, as we see that India is getting back into normal mode, Odisha has decided to boost its economy post serious COVID impact.
Speaking on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address to the assembly at the beginning of the budget session, the CM said his government has “successfully” managed the pandemic. As per advance estimates for 2021-22, Odisha will register 10.1 percent growth as compared to 8.8 percent growth in the national economy, he said.
Noting that the recovery from COVID-19 was a huge challenge, Patnaik said, “We have met this challenge with resolve and have been able to successfully reboot our economy.” Over the last 10 years, Odisha has grown at an average rate of 6.5 percent as against 5.3 percent at the national level. During 2020-21 fiscal, the state’s economy contracted by 5.3 percent due to a slowdown, while a “7.3 percent contraction” was registered nationally, he said, “This would mean, we are less affected comparatively,” the CM said.
